On the volcanic island of New Britain off Papua, a handful of animals have learned to live to the rhythm of the rages of the earth. When the ash of a volcanic eruption invades their habitat, the choice seems simple: it must either stay and adapt or else … leave. In truth, nothing is simple because volcanoes and paths of life are unpredictable.
The history of life on Earth and fire are intimately linked: volcanism is at the origin of the formation of the first organic molecules and the appearance of life on Earth.
