Die Ermordung des saudischen Journalisten Jamal Khashoggi am 2. Oktober 2018 in Istanbul hat die Beziehungen zwischen Riad und Washington erschüttert. Sie hat aber vor allem das Silicon Valley in Verlegenheit gebracht. Denn Saudi-Arabien ist heute einer der größten Investoren in amerikanische Start-ups wie UBER, Slack oder NVIDIA. Der Kronprinz Mohammed bin Salman mag zwar den Reformer geben, die amerikanische Tech-Branche hinterfragt jedoch die Stichhaltigkeit der Investitionen, die von einer konservativen und autoritären Ölmonarchie kommen.
